Sure, some high schools can achieve the same result, but there are dramatic advantages that college prep boarding schools provide that others schools generally do not. These include:Without parents watching over their shoulder, boarding school students quickly learn to fend for themselves. Living on their own, supported by caring school faculty and staff, has been known to teach students how to manage their time better, ask for help when they need it and sort out personal relationships with roommates and classmates.
There is a special bond that develops among students and adults who live together 24/7 on a college prep boarding school campus. It goes beyond simply caring about each other to caring for each other. Friends help each other in and out of the classroom.
In addition to challenging classes, such as advanced placement offerings, boarding school students are often provided skill-building classes to help with studying, test-taking and standardized exam prep. Perhaps as a result, boarding schools frequently cite average SAT scores well above the national average.
Many college prep schools have long-standing collegial relationships with prestigious colleges and universities, providing a potential advantage to students hoping to attend their top-choice college.
