Boarding school students are, in many ways, just like their high school counterparts at your local school. Boarding school students spend most of their day at school, followed by sports or gym, and extracurricular activities later in the day. They spend most of their evening hours engaged in homework, but have more free time on the weekends, when there are additional activities available to them, including off-campus excursions and events.

Research in the U.S. and overseas repeatedly confirms that single-sex education is good for both girls and boys in schools. Separating girls from boys in a 1995 school learning experiment in Virginia, the girls showed almost immediate gains in education involvement and class participation. A 2001 British study had similar results, concluding that girls perform better in an all-girls boarding school environment than in a co-ed one.

All girls’ boarding schools offer the same type of learning, cultural activities, sports programs and social community as co-ed boarding schools, except that girls are entirely the focus on single-sex campuses. And that’s good for the girls. Without boys nearby to distract them, girls are willing and able to concentrate almost exclusively on their studies. Girls in all girls boarding schools recognize all that they are capable of, and that new sense of self-esteem and ambition stays with them long after graduation.
