Hampshire Country School All Boys Boarding School Information

Hampshire Country School is a small, family-style boarding school designed especially for boys of high scholastic potential who have had difficulty in larger, socially complex schools including students diagnosed with ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, and Nonverbal Learning Disabilities.  It is primarily a junior (middle) school and is especially suitable for boys who enter when they are 8- to 11-years-old.  Students may remain into high school.

School learning is not difficult for most HCS students when life is going well outside of class; but many students were frustrated, discouraged, and without friends in other settings.  Once in the right environment, they tend to become relaxed, more active, and more engaged in both life and learning.

Classes provide a solid education in English, history, math, science, and a foreign language.  The elementary program, through grade 6, is structured but flexible, in order to adapt to students’ interests, skills, difficulties, and momentary readiness to learn.  Courses for older students are more traditional, as students move from one subject teacher to another.  Class sizes range from 3 to 6.    

All students are boarding students.  Faculty also live on campus and are engaged with students both in and out of class.  Extra-curricular activities include art, drama, recreation-level sports, hiking, camping, canoeing, beginning and intermediate music lessons, board games, reading, and lots of outdoor play.  The 1700-acre campus includes forests, fields, streams, ponds, and a small mountain.
