Randolph-Macon Academy

Randolph-Macon Academy Co-Ed Boarding School Information:
At Randolph-Macon Academy we do more than prepare our students for college; we give them a solid foundation in Knowledge, Leadership, and Character.
Knowledge
Students improve their grades at our boarding school for several reasons:
• Smaller classes--12-17 students per class
• Personal attention--our teachers care
• Rigorous coursework--students are challenged to reach their potential
Our graduating classes average more than $4 million in college merit scholarships.
Leadership
In the Air Force Junior ROTC program, students learn to be good citizens and great leaders. A military school provides structure to the students' daily lives; it also helps them develop confidence and self-discipline, both of which aid them in their academic studies.
Character
We believe in a values-based education. Our mentoring program and long association with the United Methodist Church help students become young men and women of strong, positive character.
Highlighted Programs
The Air Force JROTC Program in an integral part of the Academy, woven into the daily lives of all students in grades 9-12. It teaches students military protocols and procedures, as well as self-confidence, leadership skills, stress management, and self-discipline. One R-MA alumnus said that R-MA takes good kids and makes them great leaders; the Air Force program is the key component in accomplishing this.In 2009, the Air Force JROTC unit was recognized as "Distinguished Unit with Merit."
The Flight Program provides students with the opportunity to solo in a Cessna 152, and even obtain their private pilot’s license. This optional program is taught by R-MA faculty members.
The Music and Drama Programs include the Virginia 91st Air Force Junior ROTC Band, which is the pride of R-MA. The band and the rest of the parade unit, including armed and unarmed drill teams and the flag corps, represent R-MA in parades across the country, from New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, to Holland, MI, Indianapolis, IN, and Orlando, FL. The chorus also represents R-MA regionally, and has performed for the Air Force Association’s National Convention. The drama program has provided the small town of Front Royal with a touch of a professional theater, as the students and the stage settings bring the stories to life.
The R-MA Speech and Debate Team is one of the best in the Northeast. They were named National Champions in the Catholic Forensics League in 2005. This powerhouse team continues to dominate the competition year after year.
