Salem Academy All-Girls Boarding School Information:
About Us
The confidence to aspire, the courage to aim high: Salem Academy students discover freedom in the challenge, because in that freedom they discover themselves.
Salem Academy is a private college-preparatory school that offers girls with high aspirations a rigorous education in a homelike atmosphere.
We provide a balanced curriculum -- from physics to piano, from art to Latin, from algebra to humanities. We nurture an environment where students can lead full and happy lives, growing into young women of ideas and accomplishments.
Honor Code
As a school, Salem Academy is distinguished by a high level of academic achievement. As a community, it is characterized by a pervasive atmosphere of trust that informs all of our interactions and our days here.
Girls feel comfortable at Salem. They know that in expressing themselves with confidence and openness their ideas may be challenged, but they themselves will be accepted. They know there is always someone - often many people - they can seek out to discuss problems or issues in their lives. And they come to understand that they can leave anything -books, clothing, keys- anywhere, anytime, and find them there when they return.
The Salem Honor Code is the foundation for our life together, but that promise of honesty and integrity is only the written expression of what we manifest throughout our days here: We respect each other, we listen to each other, we enjoy each other. And we feel privileged to live in a community that brings out the best in each of us.
Academics
The academic program at Salem is designed to prepare our students for a lifetime of learning in a global society.
We offer each student a challenging college-preparatory education along with the freedom and support to discover her passion. The program of study is also designed to meet the entrance requirements of the most selective colleges and universities.
Salem Academy offers you many ways to express your inner self and create. The Academy provides classes in Art, Theatre and Music. Which one might you want to take? Maybe you want to try a different one each year, or maybe you already have a special fine art you enjoy doing. Salem Academy offers you a chance to enhance your abilities, or be introduced to an art form you may never have tried before.
Each of the fine arts areas offers “stepping stones” to help you grow. They all include a beginning, intermediate and advanced way to approach the fine arts subject. The fine arts classes are not only built into the curriculum day, but also provide activities and venues after school. Not only do you perform, exhibit or work backstage, but the fine arts at Salem Academy also gives you the techniques on how to do these things.
