The Delphian School

Our Philosophy
Delphian School began as the dream of a small group of educators in the early 1970s to build a new kind of learning environment. Dr. Alan Larson, the Founding Headmaster of the school and several of his colleagues dedicated themselves to the goal of reversing the downward trending standards in education.
Our Mission
Delphian School’s mission is to empower young people with effective study skills, a solid academic foundation, a strong sense of personal integrity and a wide range of abilities.
What does this mission mean in practice?
Effective Study Skills
At Delphian, students continually develop their ability to study independently. They routinely dive into dictionaries, reference books and online sites to fully clarify concepts. They constantly test information against the real world. Though subjects range from the more theoretical to the very practical, students study to acquire information they can use. Delphian students don’t just learn facts; they gain abilities that prepare them for the realities and challenges of life
Solid Academic Foundation
Upon enrollment all students receive an academic evaluation resulting in a customized program to fill in any educational gaps they may have. They then enter the appropriate academic level, which at Delphian is called a Form and is completed by achieving stated proficiencies. Within each subject, students move forward confident of their abilities; students are never “passed” to the next level with unresolved questions or confusions. In this way each student builds a solid academic foundation
Strong Sense of Personal Integrity
The school uses an honor code system where students play an important role in creating and maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all. When students get off track, they know they can get personalized assistance to fully remedy the situation. Personal integrity is considered a hallmark of Delphian students and the student body as a whole is marked by warm support, friendliness and teamwork
Wide Range of Abilities
The preparation of graduates for life after high school is guided by an understanding that higher education can take many forms, from college and university studies to entrepreneurial internships or apprenticeships in the arts. The school helps students prepare for the higher education that will best assist them in achieving their long-term goals.
Acknowledgment
The school owes a debt of gratitude to American author and educator L. Ron Hubbard for the breakthrough study method and educational philosophy upon which the school’s program is built. Since the school’s founding in 1976, Mr. Hubbard’s writings on the subjects of education, learning, leadership and ethics have continued to inspire and shape the school’s mission and philosophy.
