The Thacher School

The Thacher School Co-Ed Boarding School Information:
About Thacher School
Founded in 1889, The Thacher School is a coeducational boarding high school located 85 miles northwest of Los Angeles, California. The School serves academically talented students who will benefit from a rigorous college preparatory experience. The faculty and students live and work closely together in a community in which cooperation, trust, honesty, and respect are the cornerstones of school life.
Mission
The Mission of the School today remains essentially unchanged from that of its modest beginnings over one hundred years ago. While remaining true to its traditional task of preparing students for admission to college and equipping them with the contemporary knowledge and tools for a successful course of higher education, Thacher continues to train young men and women in the art of living for their own greatest good and for the greatest good of their fellow citizens in the increasingly diverse society of a complex world.
Why Thacher?
Two pillars, made of native stone, stand squarely at either side of the entrance, announcing your arrival at The Thacher School—Casa de Piedra. They whisper of generations of Thacher students who have passed by them, entering a world in which they will grow, incrementally, from children into women and men. The alchemy of this change is uniquely Thacher’s: combine the most challenging academics with the rigors of horses and western mountains, athletics and arts, and offer them up to girls and boys eager for a steeper climb, a greater exertion of mind and body, a place where their best selves will be encouraged and affirmed. Then put it all into a community that values the stuff of which great and lasting civilizations are made: honesty, fairness, kindness, and truth.
